Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou has extended his contract with Spanish La Liga club Girona.
The 27-year-old, who wears the name ‘Bono’ on his jersey, has signed a new deal which runs up to 2021, replacing a contract which was set to expire at the end of the current season.
Bounou has been on Girona’s books since 2016, when he joined from fellow Spanish club Atletico Madrid. He has also played for Real Zaragoza on loan in his career in Spain.
Born in the Canadian city of Montreal, Bounou’s family returned to Morocco and he came through the ranks of Wydad Casablanca before debuting for the first team in 2011. The following year he was snapped up by Atletico.
The goalkeeper has represented Morocco at junior and senior international level, and was part of the Atlas Lions squad at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2012 Olympics.
Bounou has been a regular between the posts for Girona this season, making 17 La Liga appearances and keeping six clean sheets.
