Ismaily’s disastrous start to Champions League continues

Egypt’s Ismaily suffered their second defeat in the Champions League.

A brace from Ghazi Ayadi handed Tunisia’s Club Africain a 2-1 win over Egypt’s Ismaily in a CAF Champions League, Group C match at the Ismaïlia Stadium on Friday night.

The Egyptian side started positively on Friday night and opened the scoring as early as the eighth minute courtesy of a strike from Benson Shilongo, 1-0.

The visitors, however, were not to be outdone and equalised in the 40th minute courtesy of a penalty goal from Ghazi Ayadi, 1-0.

The Tunisian side as handed a second penalty in injury time of the first half and Ayadi duly converted again to give Club Africain the lead at the break.

The second half saw Club Africain sit on their lead as they tried to park the bus in defence.

The Egyptian side pressed forward in search of an equaliser, but they couldn’t not produce the right ball in the final third and in the end suffered their second defeat in the Champions League.

The win sees Club Africain up to three points in Group C after losing their opening match 1-0 Constantine last weekend.

The loss for Ismaily is their second in the group standings after losing their first game 2-0 to TP Mazembe last weekend as well.

Ismaily are in action again in the Champions League against Constantine on Friday, 1 February while Club Africain are away to TP Mazemeb the next day.
