Nigeria’s Lobi Stars suffered their first loss in the CAF Champions League after Ivorian side ASEC Mimosas beat them 1-0 in Group A match at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny on Saturday.

It was a rather tentative opening twenty minutes with neither side venturing to far forward in attack which meant chances in front of goal were few and far between.

Nonetheless, ASEC pushed forward and opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 38th minute after Hamed Diomande found the back of the net, 1-0.

In the second the Nigerian outfit tried to find their way back into the match but their passing in the final third was poor, as was their shooting.

ASEC defended stoutly in the second half to hold onto their lead and their first win in the CAF competition.

The win takes ASEC to second on the Group A standings with three points from two matches while Stars are third with the same points.

The Ivorian side are next in action in the Champions League on Friday, 1 February against Mamelodi Sundowns while Stars face Wydad Casablanca on the same day.
