Lobi Stars player Alex Aghahowa insists his side were unlucky to lose 1-0 away to ASEC Mimosas in the CAF Champions League this past weekend.

The Ivorian giants claimed the victory at the Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny in Abidjan on Saturday afternoon thanks to a 38th-minute penalty from Herve Diomande.

The result, combined with Mamelodi Sundowns’ win over Wydad Casablanca in Tshwane later the same day, means all four teams in Group A of the premier continental competition are level on three points after two rounds of matches.

“We actually gave it our best in the match, it was a close contest,” explained Aghahowa to Nigeria’s Football Live.

“We got our chances, but we couldn’t convert, mostly in the second half of the game.

“The only goal of the game came when the referee awarded a penalty to them, and we kept pushing thinking we could level up the score, but to no avail.

“We are so unlucky not to have gotten a point away from home. We thank God for everything, though we lost the match.

“It’s done and dusted, we are coming back home to get prepared for the match against Wydad Casablanca come February 1st.

“That will be another litmus test for us, the North Africans are really a very difficult side, but we will give it our best. Our heads are up for the next match.”
