Jesse Were has engraved his name in ZESCO United history by becoming the club's all-time top goal scorer.
The Kenya international has scored 65 goals for the Zambian outfit since joining the Ndola-based team from Tusker FC three years ago.
Were was tied with Jackson Mwanza as the club's all-time leading scorer at the end of the 2018 season, but has since propelled clear of the Zambian forward with three goals in two games against Kaizer Chiefs.
The 29-year-old's goals guided ZESCO to a 5-2 aggregate win over the AmaKhosi and into the group stages of the 2019 Caf Confederations Cup.
Victory ended the Team Ya Ziko's hoodoo against South African teams having lost to both Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United in CAF competitions in recent history.
“We did our best, we followed the coaches’ instructions and we applied them on the pitch and it worked for us,” Were said as quoted by Cafonline.
"We are happy that we managed to break that jinx and we are excited about that but our focus now is on the group stage and the matches
"Our target is to win the group and reach the quarterfinals."
