Former Chelsea and Newcastle United striker Demba Ba has signed for Turkish Super Lig leaders Istanbul Basaksehir.
The 33-year-old Senegalese joins the club on loan from Chinese Super League team Shangahi Shenhua until the end of the 2018/19 season.
Basaksehir will be Ba’s third different club in Turkish top flight football, having featured for Besiktas and Goztepe in past years. He notably enjoyed a great season with the former in 2014/15, scoring 18 goals in 29 league appearances and 27 in 44 across all competitions.
The French-born forward joins Togo striker Emmanuel Adebayor and Ghanaian defender Joseph Attamah at Basaksehir, who are eight points clear of Galatasaray with 16 matches left in the Super Lig season.
Ba has not played for Senegal’s national team since a friendly in 2015 and in September last year he admitted that he no longer gave any thought to the prospect of playing for the Teranga Lions.
Ba began his career in France before making a name for himself with Bundesliga club Hoffenheim and English Premier League sides West Ham and Newcastle United. He then joined Chelsea in 2013 before his first move to Turkey with Besiktas the following year.
