Former Orlando Pirates, Cape Town City, SuperSport United and Chippa United head coach Eric Tinkler has landed the coaching job at Maritzburg United.

The former Bafana Bafana international has been tasked with guiding the Team of Choice clear of relegation with 12 Absa Premiership matches remaining this season.

Tinkler's appointment follows the dismissal of Muhsin Ertugral a mere 31 days after he took over the reins from Fadlu Davids. Ertugral lost all four of his league matches in charge of the club.

Maritzburg United currently occupy bottom spot on the league standings, having registered just one win in 18 matches.

The Pietermaritzburg-based club have scored a mere six goals this season, leaving Tinkler with an uphill task if he is to lead the Team of Choice up the log standings and to safety.

Mairtzburg United next face current log leaders Bidvest Wits in Braamfontein on Friday evening.
