Senegal extend Aliou Cisse’s contract to 2021

The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has extended the contract of senior national team coach Aliou Cisse to August 2021.

Cisse, a member of the famous Senegalese 2002 World Cup team, has been in charge of the Teranga Lions since 2015.

He notably secured qualification for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, and his team was desperately unlucky not to advance beyond the group stage at the tournament.

“Appreciating positively their collaboration and the results obtained over the past four years, the parties have agreed to continue their collaboration for the next 30 months until August 31, 2021, with an increase in their remuneration under the aegis of the Regulatory Authority and in correlation with the setting of new objectives related to the team’s successful participation in the CAN 2019 and 2021 and the World Cup in 2022,” read a statement issued by the FSF.

The federation added that assistant coach Régis Bogaert and goalkeepers trainer Tony Sylva have also signed contract extensions. Cisse’s monthly salary has been increased from a reported €13,000 to about €22,000.

However, the 42-year-old must meet strict targets to keep on in his role: “It is written in black and white on the contract that he must reach the 2019 CAN final,” Augustin Senghor, the FSF president, recently said.
