Club Africain head coach Chiheb Ellili has quit following the club's humiliating 8-0 defeat away to TP Mazembe in the Caf Champions League group stages this past weekend.

The Democratic Republic of Congo giants were unplayable in front of a packed stadium in Lubumbashi, as they as the Ravens romped to an emphatic victory, the biggest group stage win ever.

"My resignation is out of respect for the club's fans, I take a big part of the blame for Saturday's heavy loss," Ellili told radio station Mosaique FM.

"The loss of yesterday [Saturday] is, for me, an accident of course because the team is on the right track"

"Too bad for the players, who have given everything for months, to lose in this way.

"On a personal level, I think this is the worst moment of my career. I'm a fighter and a winner and I really did not want to live this nightmare."

The result leaves the Tunisian club bottom of a three-team Group C, while TP Mazembe sit three points behind first-placed CS Constantine. Ismaily were disqualified from the competition following aggressive fan behaviour.
