AmaZulu made it two Absa Premiership wins on the bounce with a 1-0 victory over Cape Town City at King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi on Saturday evening.
The Citizens dominated most of the game, but it would be the hosts to claim all three points - thanks in large to a superb Tapelo Nyongo free-kick.
Siyabonga Mbatha kept Usuthu in the game with two superb saves early on. The AmaZulu shot-stopper saved Kermit Erasmus' spot-kick in the sixth minute to deny the forward a first City goal, before coming to AmaZulu's rescue once more in the 18th minute.
Gift Links looked sure to score after breaking through on goal, but Mbatha was up to the task. 0-0 at the break.
City went close once more 10 minutes following the interval as Teko Modise rattled the woodwork, but it would be the hosts to open the scoring with their first real shot in anger in the 64th minute.
Peter Leeuwenburgh was simply left with no chance as Nyongo whistled an unstoppable free-kick into the roof of the net to send the home fans into absolute delirium.
City had no real answer to the stunning strike as AmaZulu duly held on for all three points to move seven points clear of the relegation zone. City remain seven points behind league leaders Bidvest Wits.
