Ivorian star Eric Bailly has praised fellow centre-back Victor Lindelof for his excellent form in the heart of Manchester United’s defence.

The Swede seemed to become a peripheral figure at Old Trafford under former manager Jose Mourinho, but he has thrived ever since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over in a caretaker capacity.

Such is Lindelof’s importance to the side that he was rested for the Red Devils’ comfortable away win at Fulham in Saturday’s early Premier League match, with Phil Jones and Chris Smalling starting.

Bailly took up a place on the bench and made a late appearance, replacing midfielder Ander Herrera, to help see out the game.

"Lindelof is a top player," Bailly told his club’s official website. “At first, it was a bit difficult for him but now he has gained in confidence and he is showing everyone just what a quality player he is.

"I'm really happy for him and the way he remained patient up to now. So he really deserves the season he is having currently and I hope he can continue his form to keep the team moving in the right direction, as that is important for us and the whole squad.”

Lindelof is set to return to the starting XI for United’s UEFA Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night. Bailly will hope to earn a place alongside the Swede for the match.
