Sudan’s Al-Hilal Omdurman suffered their first loss in the CAF Confederations cup when they were beaten 2-1 by Zambia’s Nkana in a Group C match at the Nkana Stadium on Wednesday.
It was the perfect start for Al-Hilala who took the lead seven minutes into the game after a clinical finish from Waleed Hamid, 1-0.
The home side, though, quickly hit back with the equaliser in the 14th minute courtesy of a strike from Freddy Tshimenga, 1-1.
Nkana suffered a bit of a set-back on the half hour mark when Ronald Kampamba had to leave the field injured and was replaced by Simon Bwalya.
Al-Hilal controlled the rest of the half, but their touches in the final third let them down and the two sides entered the half time break locked at 1-1.
Nkana started the second half much more positive and dominated the possession stakes, but their shooting in front of goal was poor.
Nonetheless, the home side pushed forward and were rewarded with a goal in the 75th minute thanks to a goal from Walter Bwalya, 2-1.
Al-Hilal tried to find their way back into the match but Nkana held on for their first victory in their Confederation Cup group.
The loss for Al-Hilal is their first in Group C and they will be looking to redeem themselves when they are in action again in the Confederation Cup away to Zesco on Sunday, February 24.
Nkana will be looking for their second victory when they face Asante Kotoko on the same day.
