Asante Kotoko got their Caf Confederations Cup campaign up and running with a 2-1 win over ZESCO United at Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on Wednesday.

Following defeat on matchday one, the Ghanaians claimed all three points in their Group C tussle thanks to goals from Kwame Bonsu and Emmanuel Gyamfi.

Victory moves the Porcupine Warriors level on points with ZESCO, Nkana and Al-Hilal Omdurman who have all won one and lost one match after the first two rounds of fixtures.

Nkana defeated Al-Hilal by the same scoreline in Kitwe earlier today.

Bonsu fired the hosts in front in the ninth minute before Jesse Were missed a penalty to pull the teams level with 20 minutes on the clock.

Felix Annan denied the Kenyan's spot-kick and Kotoko made good use of the miss as Gyamfi doubled their lead five minutes later. Yacouba Songne turned provider once more as the home side carried a 2-0 lead into the interval.

Team Ya Ziko halved their deficit in the 73rd minute through Ghanaian Rahim Osumanu, who had replaced Were moments earlier, but the goal proved too little to late for ZESCO who had Kondwani Mtonga sent off late on.

Kotoko next face Nkana on the 24th of February while ZESCO play host to Al-Hilal in Zambia on the same day.
