SuperSport United midfielder George Lebese has revealed that he never came close to re-joining Kaizer Chiefs.

Lebese, 30, left the Amakhosi after nine successful years to join Mamelodi Sundowns in 2017, but having failed to break into the Brazilians' first team, he forced his way out of Chloorkop.

Following months of speculation, Lebese joined Tshwane rivals SuperSport United on loan for the remainder of the campaign on transfer deadline day last month.

"It's just that people loved me whilst I was still there [at Naturena] and would have loved to see me going back, but it was never an option," Lebese is quoted as saying by KickOff.com.

"There was no form of communication [with Kaizer Chiefs]. It was clear from the word go.

"I was looking for an opportunity and now I have an opportunity [at SuperSport] and that's really the main goal."

Having been effectively shunned to the stands at Sundowns for the past few months, Lebese went on to describe his new environment as a "paradise".

He made his first appearance of the season in Matsatsanta's 3-2 win over Golden Arrows earlier this month, coming off the bench to great effect as the Tshwane club claimed all three points in the KwaZulu-Natal province.

"It's been good judging where I come from. It feels like paradise, I am very happy.

"I have a fair opportunity to fight for my place now and obviously I am not expecting to just walk into the team because there are so many quality players," he concluded.
