The win is Asante Kotoko’s second in Group C and sees them up to second on the standings with six points from four matches while Nkana are third (on the same points but with an inferior head-to-head).
The home side got off to a flying start and opened the scoring in the fourth minute courtesy of a clinical finish from Abdul Fatawu, 1-0.
Asante Kotoko continued to dominate play after that and finally doubled their score in the 23rd minute when Emmanuel Gyamfi found the back of the net, 2-0.
Four minutes later the home side confirmed their supremacy in the game with their third goal after some great build-up play concluded with Martin Antwi scoring, 3-0.
On the half hour mark Asante Kotoko suffered a bit of a set-back when goal scorer Emmanuel Gyamfi had to leave the field injured and was replaced by Kwame Boahene.
That disrupted Asante Kotoko’s play a bit and they were unable to add to their tally with the half ending 3-0 in their favour.
The second half did not produce as much fireworks as the first as both teams were poor in the final third and consequently, we saw no further goals.
The Ghanaian side are in action again in the Confederations Cup next weekend against Al-Hilal at home on Sunday, March 10 while Nkana are at home against Zesco.
