Egypt’s Al Ahly are still top of their CAF Champions League Group D despite losing 1-0 to DRC’s AS Vita Club at the Stade des Martyrs in Kinshasa on Saturday.

The loss was Al Ahly’s second of the group stages, but despite that they are still in a strong standing at the summit of Group D.

The victory was Vita’s second in the group stages and sees them in second place on seven points from five matches, only behind Al Ahly on goal difference.

The first half in Kinasha on Saturday night was not the most entertaining affair with both teams cagey in attack. This made for very little goal mouth action.

The Egyptian team did suffer a bit of a set-back in the 25th minute when Mohamed El Shenawy had to leave the field injured and was replaced by Ali Lotfi, but Vita failed to take advantage of the disruption as the half ended 0-0.

The second half was much of the same until Vita started to risk throwing a few players forward, and it paid off with the game’s only goal in the 84th minute courtesy of a strike from Tuisila Kisinda.

Al Ahly are in action again in the Champions League for their final group game next Saturday against JS Saoura while Vita are away to Simba on the same day.
