CS Sfaxien beat Etoile du Sahel 2-1 in the CAF Confederation Cup Group B match at the Stade Taib Mhiri in Tunisia on Sunday evening.
As a result, Sfaxien replaced Sahel at the top of the Group B standings with one match left.
Sfaxien were hoping to complete a double over the Sahel having defeated their Tunisian rivals 1-0 away on match-day one.
The visitors were able to contain four-time Confederation Cup winners Sfaxien in the first-half and the score was 0-0 during the half-time break.
An entertaining second-half followed as Sfaxien managed to break the deadlock through Firas Chaouat.
The 22-year-old marksman beat Sahel goalkeeper Walid Kridene to make it 1-0 to Sfaxien two minutes before the hour-mark.
However, the lead only lasted for four minutes as the visitors restored through Sadam Ben Aziza.
The former Gabes striker hit the back of the net to make it 1-1 for Sahel with Sfaxien keeper Aymen Dahmen well-beaten.
The hosts were then awarded a penalty in the 75th minute and Nassim Hnid scored from the spot-kick to make it 2-1 to Sfaxien.
Sfaxien were reduced to 10 players with seven minutes on the clock when Mohamed Manser was sent off after receiving his second yellow card.
Nevertheless, Sfaxien stood firm at the back in the closing stages of the game and ultimately, they emerged 2-1 winners on the night.
