Al Ahly manager Martin Lasarte says his side’s 1-0 loss away to AS Vita in the CAF Champions League this past weekend was undeserved.
The Egyptian giants succumbed in a Group D clash at Stade des Martyrs in Kinshasa on Saturday, with Tuisila Kisinda netting the only goal late in the game.
The result sees Ahly placed second on the log on seven points, level with third-placed Vita. Algerian’s JS Saoura lead the pool on eight points, and fourth-placed Simba are still very much in contention with six points.
“We were the better side during the majority of the game, the defeat against Vita Club was undeserved,” Lasarte said in the press conference after the game.
“It was a very difficult game and we missed a lot of chances, and at the end Vita scored and they stole the victory.
“Things have been more complicated and difficult in the group now, but we are playing the next game at our home and we are looking forward to winning that game to reach the quarterfinals.”
A win for Ahly at home to Saoura next weekend will secure progression, but anything less leaves them vulnerable to elimination.
