Cape Town City's bid for a maiden Absa Premiership title took a blow as they were hold to a 0-0 draw by Polokwane City at Cape Town Stadium on Friday evening.
The Citizens duly drop to fourth on the log standings, three points behind league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns. Fellow title contenders Bidvest Wits recorded a 4-2 win over Bloemfontein Celtic at the same time to move second.
Rise and Shine remain in sixth, six points behind the Brazilians. The Limpopo club are now unbeaten for six games.
City threatened early through Chirs David in the 16th minute. David, who scored a late winner for City against Sundowns earlier this month, took aim from range but George Chigova was well positioned to deny the midfielder.
The visitors seemed content to wait patiently for their chance in attack, to the frustration of the hosts who failed to add to their impressive goal-scoring tally before the break.
More of the same followed after the interval as City continued to push forward in search of the win.
Despite chances at either end of the pitch for both sides in the closing stages, neither could find the back of the net before the full-time whistle as both saw their scoring run come to an abrupt end.
