SuperSport United and South African international midfielder Aubrey Modiba has called on Bafana Bafana to play for the win against Libya this coming weekend.
SA head into their final 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier needing to avoid defeat against the Mediterranean Knights in Sfax (Tunisia) to secure a berth at the finals in Egypt.
A draw in North Africa would be enough for Stuart Baxter’s men to advance alongside Nigeria, who have already secured qualification from Group E.
But Modiba insists that going for the jugular rather than being conservative will be the best way for Bafana to go about securing an AFCON spot.
“It’s a big game for us, for the country. We need just one point, but we can’t go there with that mentality,” Modiba said, as quoted by Kick-Off.
“We need to win the game, score goals and defend well as a team because I think it will give us confidence going forward, knowing that we can score goals and defend well,” he added.
“It’s going to be a tough one, especially playing away from home. We need to work hard for one another.”
South Africa’s match against Libya is set for the Stade Taieb Mhiri on Sunday 24 March.
