Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane has backed midfielder Hlompho Kekana and Orlando Pirates attacker Thembinkosi Lorch for top honours at the Premier Soccer League awards at the end of the season.

Kekana has been a mainstay in the Brazilians midfield over the last few seasons, and the Sundowns captain has continued to impress as the club aim to defend the Absa Premiership crown they won last season.

Mosimane believes it's due time that Kekana is recognised for his efforts in the middle of the park.

"I always speak about my players, I love my players so much. Kekana [is] unbelievable, maybe my Footballer of the Year," Mosimane is quoted as saying by KickOff.com.

"I know he failed to win midfielder of the year for five years in a row, five years in a row. Every time there is a midfielder who pops up and beats him, I don’t know by one or two votes.

"But I’d vote for him for Footballer of the Year. He’s 33, it’s unbelievable. He is a pleasure to watch, unbelievable.”

Furthermore, the former Bafana Bafana mentor has backed Buccaneers favourite Lorch to also be among the nominees for the top individual prize.

“Obviously we’d like to see Lorch nominated, why not? He’s earned his dues, playing Champions League. He is playing in the PSL, in a battle for number one and two. That’s it, those are the people," Mosimane concluded.
