Ghana U-23 national team coach Ibrahim Tanko says he is confident that the team will defeat Algeria in the final qualification round ahead of the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations.
Ghana have thus far defeated Togo and Gabon in the first and second round of qualification respectively and will come up against an Algerian side which enjoyed a bye first up and then overcame Equatorial Guinea 3-1 on aggregate.
Tanko believes the Black Meteors have what it takes to reach the U-23 AFCON for the first time since its introduction in 2011.
"We have had tough opponents in the qualifiers and the Algerians are our next opponent," he is quoted by Football Ghana.
"We don't know much about them [Algeria] but we'll get their videos before the match in June.
"Both teams have qualified but I believe in my boys that we will beat Algeria to qualify."
The final round of qualifying also features the following match-ups: South Africa v Zimbabwe, Zambia v Congo, Cameroon v Tunisia, Ivory Coast v Guinea, Sudan v Nigeria and DR Congo v Mali.
The two legs of the final round will be played in early June, with the seven aggregate winners advancing into the finals to join hosts Egypt. The tournament will be held on November 8-22, with the top three teams qualifying for next year’s Olympic Games in Tokyo.
