South African football fans woke up to the sad news of Free State Stars winger Sinethemba Jantjie's untimely death.
The 30-year-old passed away in a car accident in Bethlehem, Free State, in the early hours of Monday morning, the club confirmed via a statement.
Jantjie, who signed a pre-contract with Bidvest Wits in January, was a key player for Ea Lla Koto over the past two campaigns, and played an integral role in helping the club to Nedbank Cup success last season.
The Eastern Cape born-attacker scored four goals in 23 matches across all competitions this season, including a brace in a memorable 3-2 win over rivals Bloemfontein Celtic.
Jantjie joined the Free State club in 2016 after starring for Mbombela United in the National First Division.
He joins a worryingly large list of PSL footballers that have lost their lives in car accidents over the past few years, including Lesley Manyathela‚ Gift Leremi‚ Richard Henyekane‚ Cecil Lolo‚ Mondli Cele and Mlondi Dlamini.
