Borussia Dortmund star fullback Achraf Hakimi has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2018-19 season due to a broken metatarsal.

The Morocco International picked up the injury in the German club's 2-0 win over Wolfsburg on Sunday.

Hakimi, who is on-loan in Dortmund from Real Madrid, has established himself of an integral member of the team, but he will unfortunately sit out the rest of the season as Dortmund aim to break Bayern Munich's stranglehold on the Bundesliga title.

The 20-year-old is set to undergo surgery in Madrid as he aims to recover in time for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

The Atlas Lions will be aiming to win their first AFCON title since 1976 later this year, but Hakimi's injury will come as a major blow to Herve Renard - especially considering the fullback's superb form this season.

Hakimi has scored three and assisted a further seven goals in 28 appearances across all competitions this season, featuring at both left-and-right-back.
