Ghanaian midfielder Kadri Mohammed has revealed that he was offered the chance to naturalise for Russia and represent their national team.

The 23-year-old defensive midfielder plays for Russian club Arsenal Tula and has racked up two goals and four assists from 22 appearances across all competitions in 2018/19.

The Obuasi-born player has been particularly excellent of late, being named to the Russian Premier League team of the month for March.

"Yes it's true, I have been approached by the Russians to naturalise for them but I love Ghana and I want to play for Ghana,” Mohammed is quoted by GhanaWeb.

"The rumour got to me at one of our training sessions that I have agreed to play for Russia through my teammates in Russia.

“I had to ask our club interpreter who then informed me that their association is reporting that I have agreed to naturalise for them to play for the national team.

“However, l said no, because I love Ghana and besides am not a Russian. I am not ready to naturalise for any country in the world. Ghana is where am from and nothing can make me decide to switch nationality.”

Mohammed, who started out his career with AshantiGold, is currently on loan at Arsenal Tula from Austria Vienna. The Russian side has an option to buy the Ghanaian when his loan deal expires on June 30.
