Zambia’s Nkana were booted out of the CAF Confederations Cup after losing 2-0 to Tunisia’s CS in a second-leg, quarter-final match at the Stade Taïeb Mhiri on Sunday.
The result combined with Nkana’s 1-0 win in the first leg last weekend sees Sfaxien progress into the final four of the tournament 2-1 on aggregate.
Trailing by a goal after the first leg Sfaxien knew they had to come out firing on Sunday and they did just that with the opening goal in the seventh minute courtesy of a strike from Firas Chaouat, 1-0 (1-1 on aggregate).
The home side continued to press forward after that, but their finishing in front of goal was poor while Nkana offered very little in attack to see the half end unchanged.
The start of the second 45 saw the Zambian side with more ball possession, but their decision making in key areas of the ball saw them give the ball away cheaply. Consequently, chances on goal were at a minimum for Nkana.
As the half progressed both sides seemed content to settle for a draw which would see them into extra time, but Sfaxien stole the aggregate win late on with Alaa Marzouki scoring the second goal of the day in the 90th minute to make it 2-0 (2-1 on aggregate).
