AmaZulu FC defeated SuperSport United 2-0 in an Absa Premiership match at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Wednesday night.
As a result, Usuthu remained 11th on the league table, while Matsatsantsa also remained fourth on the standings.
Usuthu pushed for the opening goal in the early stages of the game, but they could not penetrate the Matsatsantsa defence.
The hosts tried their luck from range in the 14th minute, but Sphesihle Maduna's effort flew over the crossbar.
The first real chance of the game fell for Bradley Grobler in the 21st minute, but the SuperSport striker was denied by AmaZulu goalkeeeper Siyabonga Mbatha.
Usuthu also had a chance to take the lead just before the half-hour mark and Siyethemba Sithebe's effort was well-saved by Matsatsantsa keeper Ronwen Williams.
The two teams continued to attack each with the half-time break approaching, but they could not find the back of the net.
The score was 0-0 at the interval between AmaZulu and SuperSport.
The deadlock was finally broken 10 minutes after the restart and it was Bonginkosi Ntuli, who hit the back of the net.
Ovidy Karuru set-up the former Lamontville Golden Arrows striker, who made no mistake as he beat Williams to make it 1-0 to AmaZulu.
SuperSport coach Kaitano Tembo reacted by introducing Teboho Mokoena and Evans Rusike as the visitors looked to level matters.
However, Matsatsantsa were wasteful in the closing stages of the game as Clayton Daniels, Grobler and Rusike all missed the target.
The visitors were made rue those missed chances as second-half substitute Somila Ntsundwana sealed AmaZulu's 2-0 win over SuperSport in stoppage time with a low shot.
