Cape Town City pushed Chippa United deeper into Absa Premiership relegation trouble with a 2-0 win over their hosts at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Friday evening.

Goals from Shane Roberts and Gift Links move the Citizens up to third place on the log standings, six off top spot with two games remaining. Defeat leaves Chippa in 15th place, a point from safety.

Chippa dominated the early exchanges and most of the first half, but failed to open the scoring before the break.

The hosts were made to rue their missed chances following the interval as Shane Roberts fired the hosts in front in the 79th minute with his first league goal.

Gift Links doubled the hosts lead six minutes later. The attacker - who like Roberts rose off the bench in the second stanza - pounced on a defensive error before firing a rasping left footed shot into the corner of the net to secure all three points for the visions.
