Esperance de Tunis coach Moine Chaabani has rued his side’s poor finishing from the first leg of their CAF Champions League semifinal this past weekend.
The Blood and Gold defeated TP Mazembe 1-0 at the Olympic Stadium in Rades on Saturday evening, but they missed out on several chances to add to their advantage and face a tough test in the return game in Lubumbashi on May 4.
"The performance was good overall and the players have worked hard throughout the game,” Chaabani is quoted by Koora.
“But we stumbled on an opponent who plays with a deep defence and the density of the opposing midfielders has slowed down our offensive transitions.”
The Esperance coach added, “We could have made the score worse [for TP Mazembe] if the attackers had been more clinical in front of the goal.
“The result is certainly not reassuring, but we were aware from the beginning that the qualification for the final will be decided in Lubumbashi.
“In DR Congo, it will be another match with totally different conditions, but we will play our luck thoroughly.”
