Etoile du Sahel will look for a turnaround in their CAF Confederation Cup semifinal tie when they host Zamalek for the return leg at the Olympic Stadium in Sousse on Sunday, 5 May 2019, kick-off at 21h00 CAT.
The first match between the teams at the Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria last weekend saw the Egyptian giants claim a 1-0 win, with a first-half goal from Mahmoud Kahraba.
“I am pleased with my side’s performance,” said White Knights coach Christian Gross after the match.
“We will now have a very tough game against Etoile. We will have a battle at Sousse so we have to prepare for it well.”
The Tunisians will need a strong performance at home – something they have excelled in during the Confederation Cup of late. Their last three home games in the continental competition have brought them wins over Al Hilal (3-1), Salitas (1-0) and Enugu Rangers (2-1).
ESS also notably gave Zamalek a 5-1 thrashing at home in the semifinals of this competition back in 2015, en route to winning the trophy. A repeat performance is exactly what Roger Lemerre and his charges will be aiming for.
“Zamalek haven’t qualified for the final yet despite their victory. We will play the return leg with a completely different performance,” warned the French tactician.
DR Congo referee Jean-Jacques Ndala Ngambo will take charge of the match in Sousse. The aggregate winners will advance to face either CS Sfaxien (Tunisia) or RS Berkane (Morocco) in the final later this month.
