According to Guinea national team coach Paul Put, Naby Keita may recover from his injury in time to be part of Liverpool’s squad for the UEFA Champions League final.

The 24-year-old midfielder sustained a serious groin injury in Liverpool’s semifinal 3-0 first-leg defeat away to Barcelona, which subsequently ruled him out for the remainder of the Premier League season.

The initial prognosis, as revealed by Reds manager Jurgen Klopp in the days after the injury was sustained, was that Keita would be sidelined not only for the remainder of the European season, but also miss out on Guinea’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations campaign.

However, ahead of the AFCON which begins on June 21 in Egypt, Put has given an update on the Conakry-born footballer which should pique the interest of Liverpool’s support.

“He consulted his doctor in Switzerland as I said at the beginning. He is in treatment with his doctor,” Put told Foot224.

“It is said that he will maybe in two weeks [be ready] to resume [training] with the group.

“It is even possible that he is in the group for the Champions League final if what I have been told is true. We will see. That’s the news that I got.”

The Champions League final will be held in the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid, Spain on Saturday 1 June.
