Gor Mahia midfielder Kenneth Muguna has admitted that he did not deserve a spot in Kenya's 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) squad.

The 26-year-old was omitted from the 26-man provisional squad which is set to start preparations for the tournament to be held in Egypt.

However, Muguna stated that he deserves to be included in the Harambee Stars squad for the 2020 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier.

“To be honest I do not deserve to be in the Afcon squad, it has been a competitive season," Muguna told Goal.

"And all I can say is that those called to Harambee Stars ahead of me deserve it.

"They have worked harder and won their place in the team, actually, if I was a coach, I could have selected the same team," he added.

“I feel happy and contented to be in the Chan squad, and I want to fully concentrate on it.

"I deserve to be there. It has been a tough season and the competition has been stiff in all departments," he said.

“I have hope and belief in the selected players, and I know they will definitely make us proud.”

Kenya are set to take on Burundi in the 2020 CHAN qualifier in July and August 2019.
