Morocco are set to grace the 2019 WAFU Cup of Nations which will be hosted by Senegal between September 28 and October 13.

The North African giants are invited to the West African tournament following the absence of Sierra Leone due to their FIFA ban for government interference.

The Atlas Lions have been pitted against Liberia in the first phase of the competition and the game will be played on September 29 at the Stade Lat Dior.

Morocco and Liberia will clash for the fourth time across all competitions including friendly matches.

The Atlas Lions have recorded two victories compared to the Lone Stars' one win in their three meetings.

The last time the two teams clashed was on the 29th of July 1987 in an international friendly match with Liberia winning 2-1.

Prior to that, the two countries had met in the 1982 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign.

The Atlas Lions defeated the Lone Stars both home and away as a 3-1 victory in Fez was followed by a 5-0 win in Monrovia.

Liberia, who are under the guidance of Thomas Kojo, will be keen to impress at the WAFU tournament which falls outside the FIFA calendar.

Kojo is expected to name a squad of home-based players for their 2020 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier against Senegal.

The two West African teams will clash between July and August, and this will give Kojo a chance to have a look at his players ahead of the WAFU competition.

Atlas Lions coach Herve Renard is likely to include players from Morocco's top clubs, AS FAR, Raja Casablanca and Wydad Casablanca in his squad for the regional tournament.
