Zambia will face Botswana in the 2019 Cosafa Cup final following a 4-2 penalty shoot-out win over defending champions Zimbabwe at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Wednesday evening.
Following a goalless 90 minutes the game went straight to penalties where Zimbabwe missed their opening two spot-kicks. Zambia, in contrast, were faultless from the spot to duly book their place in the final as they set their sights on a fifth Cosafa Cup crown.
The best chance of the match fell to Zambia in the 41st minute following a handball inside the area. Austin Muwowo, though, failed to convert from the spot as Elvis Chipezeze pulled off a good diving save.
The game ebbed and flowed following the interval with both teams squandering chances at either end of the pitch.
Phlana Kadewere missed a gilt-edged chance for The Warriors in the final minute of regulation time following a rapid counter-attack as the game would ultimately be decided from the spot.
Khama Billiat and Admiral Muskwe missed for Zimbabwe, opening the door for Chipolopolo who were faultless from 12 yards on their way to booking a place in the final.
