Egyptian star Ali Ghazal attracts interest ahead of AFCON

Portugal-based defender Ali Ghazal has attracted interest from clubs in Turkey, Ukraine and Portugal ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals.

The 27-year-old impressed while playing for Primeira Liga side CD Feirense having joined the club in January 2019 from American MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps.

Ghazal made 11 appearances for Feirense, but he could not help the team avoid relegation from Portugal's top flight league.

The lanky player, who has had a spell with Guizhou Zhicheng in China, has since revealed that he is a wanted man in Europe.

“Several teams from Turkey, Ukraine and Portugal have shown interest in signing me. I want to join a club that competes in a strong league,” Ghazal told Al Hadath TV channel.

“For now my goal is to stay in Europe for the next season. But if there’s a lot of interest from local clubs, I might postpone it until next season,” he added.

Ghazal is part of Egypt's 25-man provisional squad which is set to participate in the 2019 AFCON finals.
