Egypt's Cairo International Stadium is almost ready for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals after undergoing significant renovations.

This is according to the country's local organising committee with Egypt set to host the tournament between June 21 and July 19.

It is the biggest venue selected to host Africa's most prestigious tournament.

"Only minor details left before the stadium appears in its final shape for the tournament as part of the plan to renovate Egyptian stadiums," the committee said in a statement on its official Facebook page.

"Committee director Mohamed Fadl inspected the stadium to make sure it's ready before it's handed over to [African governing body] CAF eight days before the tournament gets underway."

It is also known as the Stad El Qahira El Dawly and is an Olympic-standard - multi-use stadium with an all-seated capacity of 75,000.

Five 2019 AFCON matches will be played at the Cairo International Stadium.
