Orlando Pirates on Wednesday announced the departure of former South Africa international, Jackson Mabokgwane.

The shot-stopper is one of three first team players released by the club, while Abbubaker Mobara will officially join Cape Town City on a free transfer at the expiry of his contract this month.

Mabokgwane, 31, joined Pirates from Mpumalanga Black Aces three years ago, and despite glimpses of promise he could never really nail down a starting spot with costly mistakes in goal ultimately leading to his demise.

Thabo Qalinge and Ayanda Nkosi will also leave the Buccaneers once their contracts come to an end. Qalinge, like Mabokgwane, joined Pirates from Aces and despite much promise he failed to really live up to expectations.

The Soweto giants finished second on the Absa Premiership log standings last season, losing out to eventual champions Mamelodi Sundowns on the final day of the campaign.
