Ahead of their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations clash against Nigeria, Guinea coach Paul Put has called on his team to be “bigger”.
The Syli Nationale will face the Super Eagles in their second Group B match at the tournament, with the teams meeting at the Alexandria Stadium this afternoon.
Guinea had a stuttering start to the Nations Cup, as they were held 2-2 by debutants Madagascar last weekend.
Nigeria were not particularly impressive against another rookie team, Burundi, but they at least secured a 1-0 win thanks to a late strike from substitute Odion Ighalo.
Put is hoping his team can dent Nigeria’s AFCON hopes but knows that the Super Eagles represent a major challenge.
“I know I have a big game to play on Wednesday against Nigeria. Today the group that did not start the match against Madagascar trained and the other group worked in the massage room,” Put told Guineefoot.info.
”Nigeria is a great team, and it’s up to us to be bigger.”
Guinea and Nigeria have met in 17 previous matches, with each side claiming five victories.
The other second round Group B match will be played on Thursday and sees Madagascar take on Burundi at the Alexandria Stadium.
