South Africa have been dealt a major blow in build-up to their crucial 2019 Africa Cup of Nations clash against neighbours Namibia at Al Salam Stadium in Cairo this evening.
Bafana Bafana suffered a 1-0 defeat to Ivory Coast in their Group D opener on Monday, and with a match against Morocco still to come, Stuart Baxter's troops will need nothing but maximum points against the Brave Warriors.
Furman is Bafana Bafana's most capped player in Egypt, and arguably the most underrated.
The 31-year-old picked up a reported knee injury in defeat to the Elephants and while initial reports ruled him out for the remainder of the tournament, he could recover in time for South Africa's clash against the Atlas Lions in the Egyptian capital.
Mamelodi Sundowns captain Hlompho Kekana and France-based Bongani Zungu are the most likely candidates to replace Furman in midfield.
