Senegal midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye says they are stronger than before as they look to clinch their maiden Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title.
The Lions of Teranga are scheduled to face Uganda in the Round of 16 match on Friday night.
"Everyone made us the competition favourite but then we lost against Algeria, we were subjected to a lot of criticism about our abilities,"Gueye said.
“But we have never lacked ambition.”
Gueye, who is on the books of English side Everton FC, has made it clear that they are ready to face any team in Egypt.
“We are always asked why we have not been able to win the Cup of Nations and we’re trying to find the answer," he added.
“Now we are in the round of 16, will we reach the final? I don’t know, but we are stronger than before.
"We hope we can win this time. We are prepared to play against any team,” he said.
"We are aiming for the same goal, but everyone knows it's difficult.”
The encounter between Senegal and Uganda will be played at the Cairo International Stadium.
