Senegal out to stun Algeria in AFCON final

Senegal will square off with Algeria in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final on Friday.


Kick-off is at 21h00 CAT.


The encounter is set to be played at the Cairo International Stadium in the Egyptian city of Cairo.


The Lions of Teranga secured their place in the final after defeating Tunisia’s Carthage Eagles 1-0 in a semi-final match on Sunday.


Senegal will be making their second appearance in the AFCON final and they have never won the continental tournament.


The Lions of Teranga head coach Aliou Cisse, who is a former Senegal captain, will look to his key players Idrissa Gana Gueye and Sadio Mane.


Meanwhile, Algeria progressed to the final after defeating Nigeria’s Super Eagles 2-1 in a semi-final match on Sunday.


The Desert Foxes will make their third appearance in the AFCON final having won the title once in 1990.


Algeria coach Djamel Belmadi, who is also former Desert Foxes midfielder, will look to his dangermen Adam Ounas and Riyad Mahrez.


This will be the 20th meeting between Senegal and Algeria.


The Desert Foxes have recorded 10 wins compared to Lions of Teranga’s four victories, while five matches ended in a draw.
