Algeria midfielder Ismail Bennacer has been named 2019 Africa Cup of Nations Player of the Tournament.
This comes after the influential midfielder helped the Desert Foxes clinch the 2019 AFCON title after defeating Senegal 1-0 in the final in Egypt on Friday.
Bennacer was a consistent performer in Algeria’s midfield and he provided three assists upfront, including the one from which Baghdad Bounedjah scored the winner in the final.
The diminutive midfielder, who is on the books of Italian club Empoli, featured in all of the Desert Foxes’ seven matches at the AFCON finals.
Meanwhile, Nigeria striker Odion Ighalo, who helped the Super Eagles finish third in the tournament, won the Golden Boot award.
The China-based striker hit the back of the net five times including the winner against Tunisia in the third-place play-off match.
Lastly, Algeria’s Rais M’Bolhi walked away with the tournament’s Goalkeeper of the Tournament accolade having kept a clean sheet in the final.
