Al Ahly have been crowned Egyptian Premier League champions for the fourth straight season following a 3-1 win over Arab Contractors on Wednesday night.

The victory ensured the Red Devils will finish atop the Egyptian top flight for the 41st time in history.

“It is a very important title. The team went through tough moments, we deserve this trophy. Celebrate and enjoy these moments,” Lasarte told Al Ahly TV.

“We have to keep working and aspire for new titles. When I arrived the point difference with the leaders was 17 points so I think we did a good job. We had a precise goal.

“The most important thing is having long term plans. I know how much the fans are waiting for titles.”

Tunisian Ali Maaloul hailed his team’s determination, as they came from behind to secure the title.

“This is Al Ahly’s character and spirit, we were off to a poor start but we came back with determination,” Maaloul said.

“After my exclusion from Tunisia I was fully focused on Al Ahly and the league deciding fixtures. We still have a tough game against Zamalek which we have to win. The coach asked the players to give their best and we did not let him down.”

He added, “Star player? The entire team was. We all play for one objective which is Al Ahly’s good and being crowned as league title is what is important.

“Thanks to Al Ahly fans. They were backing us after all the tough times we went through after losing the Champions League and the Arab Championship. Winning the league is the least we can reward them with.”
