Egyptian defender Ahmed Hegazi has began his rehabilitation from surgery to rectify a long-standing ankle problem.
The operation he underwent on Tuesday was a success and he will start his recuperation immediately according to his English club, West Bromwich Albion.
Albion hope to have the experienced central defender, who represented his country at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, back following the September international break.
Hegazi revealed that everything went well regarding his operation and he is looking forward to returning to action.
“Everything went well and I’m now focusing on a full recovery and return as soon as possible,” he said.
West Brom’s Head of Sports Science and Medicine Andrew Leaver explained why Hegazi underwent surgery.
“Ahmed had an issue with his ankle which we managed through last season and he was able to play through,” he said.
“However, the sheer volume of games he played last year which continued in the summer with Egypt, meant surgery was required to resolve the issue.”
