Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho has expressed his delight with his pre-season scoring form for Premier League side Leicester City.
Iheanacho saw relatively little playing time – especially as a starter – for the Foxes last season, and this ultimately cost him a place in the Super Eagles’ 23-man squad for the recently-concluded Africa Cup of Nations.
However, the 22-year-old appears determined to get his career back on track and has been in impressive form for the Foxes in pre-season.
Iheanacho scored against Cambridge last Tuesday before netting twice in the 2-2 draw with Rotherham United on Saturday afternoon.
“I am delighted, I am happy getting two goals today,” he said. “Hopefully I can take that into the season.
“I think it’s important for my confidence. It has been a long time coming but I am happy again. I think I can take it fully into the season.
“We have a big squad, so many players who are good footballers. Everyone is competing and fighting for a place.”
Iheanacho will hope to feature for Leicester in their opening Premier League match of the 2019/20 season, which sees Brendan Rodgers’ side host Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday 11 August.
