Bidvest Wits defeated AmaZulu FC 3-0 in an Absa Premiership match at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday night.

The Clever Boys contained Usuthu in the opening stages of the game before they broke the deadlock in the 15th minute following a defensive error.

Zimbabwean attacker Terrence Dzvukamanja pounced and he beat AmaZulu goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs with a header to make it 1-0 to Wits.

The hosts had to find a way to level matters, but they could not seriously test Brandon Petersen in the Clever Boys goal-posts.

Andre De Jong’s shot was blocked before Siphesihle Maduna’s follow up went wide of the target as Usuthu looked to equalize.

The visitors looked dangerous every time they pushed forward and they managed to double their lead in the 38th minute.

This time it was Namibian winger Deon Hotto, who hit the back of the net as he fired past experienced keeper Josephs to make it 2-0 to Wits heading to the half-time break.

The Clever Boys continued to attack after the restart and they extended their lead from Keegan Ritchie’s well-taken free-kick.

The former Kaizer Chiefs left-back’s set-piece was headed home by Thulani Hlatshwayo to make it 3-0 to Wits nine minutes after the restart.

AmaZulu coach Cavin Johnson introduced Talent Chawapiwa in the 73rd minute as the hosts looked to pull one back.

Chawapiwa tried to make an immediate when he set-up his teammate Lehlohonolo Majoro, whose effort was well saved by Wits shot-stopper Petersen.

The hosts launched late attacks in search of a consolation goal, but Wits stood firm at the back and ultimately, they emerged 3-0 winners over AmaZulu on the night.
