Algerian midfielder Ismael Bennacer says he “cannot wait to start” his career with Italian giants AC Milan.
The 21-year-old signed for Milan on a five-year deal, transferring from fellow Italian side Empoli. The move was confirmed this past weekend.
Bennacer, who was the Player of the Tournament at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt (which was won by Algeria, for their second continental title), is eager to prove himself in the famous red and black of the Rossoneri.
“It’s a great honour being here,” said the player during his first interview with the Serie A giants.
“I don’t know what to say other than I’m really excited. We’re talking about a club with one of the most important histories in the world.
“When Milan calls, you can only accept. It’s impossible to say no.”
On the AFCON final against Senegal, which brought Algeria their first title since 1990, Bennacer said: “Up until three years ago, I wasn’t playing with the national team. I trained a lot and had patience.
“I wasn’t expecting all of this, but it’s fantastic. I cannot wait to start. I’ll give everything for the fans and this shirt.”
Bennacer previously represented France at junior international level and has also played for Arles, Arsenal and Tours in his club career.
