Turkish coach Hassan Oktay has dumped Kenyan giants Gor Mahia ahead of their 2019/20 CAF Champions League campaign.

The Kenyan champions are set to face Burundian side Aigle Noir in the preliminary round first-leg match away on Friday.

K’Ogalo released the following statement:

A club statement read: “Last season’s title-winning coach Hassan Oktay has officially parted ways with Gor Mahia.”

“The Turk asked for six days off to attend to his personal issues in Europe but has asked the club to release him from contractual duties that bound him to K’Ogalo until end of next year.”

Oktay sent the following letter to the Gor Mahia club management:

“Kindly accept my resignation as Gor Mahia FC head coach effective today, the sixth day of August 2019. As you are aware, the decision has been forced on me by the personal challenges I am facing here in Europe.

“I wish to thank you and the entire club, including the fans for the opportunity you accorded me to manage this great club. I also wish you guys all the best in your forthcoming assignments,” Oktay wrote to club chairman Ambrose Rachier

“The club has accepted Oktay’s wish to terminate his contract and thanks him for his services. The club also prays for Oktay’s situation to get better,” another club statement read.
