Ghana’s Ashanti Gold opened their 2019/20 CAF Confederation Cup campaign with a solid 1-1 draw away to Equatorial Guinea’s Akonangui, as part of a busy Saturday in the second-tier continental competition.

The Miners looked on course for an away win after Richard Osei Agyemang’s goal early in the second half, but the hosts ensured the game ended level after an equaliser from Diosando Mbele.

Niger Tornadoes of Nigeria are in real trouble in their African campaign, having lost 2-1 at home to Guinea’s Santoba. Usmane Kamara and Ibrahim Babawo netted for the Conakry-based team, while Tornadoes’ reply came from Godwin Zaki.
