Mamelodi Sundowns lost 2-1 to Otôho d’Oyo in a Caf Champions League preliminary round first-leg clash at Stade Omnisport Marien Ngouabi d’Owando on Sunday afternoon.

The Brazilians played the majority of the fixture with 10-men following the early dismissal of captain Hlompho Kekana.

Sundowns were 2-0 down at the break, but showcased superb grit and determination to half the deficit ahead of the reverse fixture in South Africa in two weeks time.

Thapelo Morena struck home what could be a pivotal away goal for the South African champions in the second half, as they ultimately slumped to a narrow loss in Congo.

Sundowns will now return to South African shores to take on Chippa United in an Absa Premiership fixture on Wednesday, before turning attention to the MTN8 next weekend.
